Does the depleted battery brick bug from 1st gen happen on 2nd gen?

I had a 1st gen Moto G and after a year of pride and joy, it died on me due to that depleted battery bug where it dies and won't turn back on or charge ever again.

I loved the phone but I think that was an unforgivable flaw.

Does the 2nd gen suffer from the same issue? And, what other common issues do you guys know of that this phone has? I'm thinking of getting the 2nd gen but if it has the same issue I'll avoid it like the plague.
