Rooting.

Hi All.
Newbie to forum.
Have gt-i9300 but efs files got lost before backup, it's a work in progress trying to sort it.:)
My question is can rooting damage corrupt the efs folder?
I've read that flashing roms etc can do this but nothing about rooting.
