OTA Sideloading while Rooted

Hi,

I remember reading somewhere that updates after Lollipop would check the entire system image as one block and wouldn't update if it didn't match meaning that the smallest change (like Rooting) would render the device unable to accept OTA updates.

My question is does this only apply if I try to update the device from the notification or would this apply if I tried to sideload the update? ~ Can I update a rooted device by sideloading the update?

Just to be on the safe side: My idea of sideloading an update is downloading the update via the notification, copying it from the device to the PC, booting into (stock) recovery and choosing sideload update.

APK Sideloading . Unable to tap on Install button

Anyone run into this issue before? When I open an APK to install, tapping the Install button does nothing. Sometimes if I tap on it a lot, and in different parts, it will go through, but other times I can't seem to get it to work. Tapping Cancel will work as expected, and when I enable Tap Views in Debug options, I can SEE the taps on the button.

Unknown Sources is checked and turning off Verify Apps makes no difference.

Almost No Need For Sideloading Now

I was reading some stuff over at the Nvidia forums and someone mentioned that they were able to install apps from the web play store onto their Shield, that wouldn't show up in the Leanback Play store. I gave it a try and sure enough I could install a bunch of apps, I even tried completely random ones like catlog and facebook, both installed!

Some things will probably still have to be sideloaded but this is an easy alternative.
