One-handed mode?

This is officially phablet-sized, but I haven't heard anything about a one-handed mode similar to iPhone's "reachability" or the offerings of LG and Samsung.

If they are not going to offer a smaller flagship, how could this have been missed? I'm sure there was a similar discussion when the Nexus 6 came out.

Imagine:

Hold home and swipe right shrinks entire display to bottom right corner. Hold home and swipe left shrinks entire display to bottom left. Repeat to expand to full screen.

And before anyone mentions Xposed, I shouldn't have to root my phone for this.

Something like this is sorely missing from stock Android. I was surprised this was missing from Lollipop on the Nexus 6 and even more so that it was apparently left out of Android M.

Edit:
Android already has the ability to change resolution and DPI without a reboot. The app framework already arranges the layout based on these parameters. Would it really be too much more difficult to add this?
