HTC One M8 - Stuck at Boot Screen after Stagefright OTA

Hi all,

This is my M8 - Stock, Rooted & S-OFF. It's an unlocked O2 one which I use on EE in the UK

M8_UL PVT SHIP S-OFF
CID-02___001
HBOOT-3.19.0.0000
RADIO-1.25.21331147A1.06G
OpenSDP-v48.2.2-00564-M8974_FO.1211
OS-4.20.206.1 <--- after the OTA, this now reads OS-4.20.206.2
eMMC-boot 2048MB

The Stagefright OTA for my M8 just downloaded, so I re-flashed recovery with one that I extracted from the last 5.0.1 OTA (it usually has the latest TWRP) & let it install the OTA. Everything went fine, it rebooted afterwards to recovery, then automatically rebooted again... & then it sticks at the boot screen after showing the O2 logo & chiming.

From the stuck boot screen, I can reboot it into the boot loader or recovery fine, but now when I boot it into recovery I get this:

Android system recovery <3e>
LRX22C release-keys

Volume up/down to move highlight;
enter button to select.

reboot system now
apply from sd card
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
reboot into bootloader
power down
view recovery logs
apply from phone storage

What do you advise?

I haven't tried to factor reset it yet, but there is nothing on the phone that isn't backed up, so I can reset, re-flash or do anything required to get it back. As it's S-OFF, at a pinch I could change the SID & flash an entirely different ROM, although I have tended to stay Stock up until now...

Stagefright

Just now got MMS on my Nexus 6 with 5.1.1 and did not understand:
  1. My phone can be infected?

  2. How I can check is my phone already infected?

  3. If so, how I can make my phone clean?

Using StageFright exploit to root VZW Note 4

Well, the topic pretty much says it all... so would it be possible to do such a thing? :3

Is someone maybe already looking into this?

Stagefright OTA update issue

Had stock rom 5.0.2, rooted, xposed framework installed, twrp.
I used the xposed framework uninstaller zip, full unroot from supersu, flashed stock recovery.

When I try to install the update I get the triangle exclamation thing, the following text:
Installing update...
Warning: No file_contextsL50QCT.01.102.010
Package expects build fingerprint of htc/sprint_wwe/m7wls:5.0.2/LRX22G/499067.6:user/release-keys or htc/sprint_wwe/m7wls:5.0.2/LRX22G/499067.7:user/release-keys: this device has htc/sprint_wwe/m7wls:4.1.2/JZO54K/166937.10:user/release-keys.

Thanks for any help!

Firmware 23.4.A.0.580 does NOT completely fix Stagefright

I think that most of you know about Stagefright bug and there is many news about Sony Mobile, which correct it very fast with firmware 23.4.A.0.580. But it is not 100 percent true, because there are no all important patches, the latest one miss. And because 23.4.A.0.580 is full bloatware, by myself it is better to wait more for next release. As you can see on photos, situation after upgrade is better, but there is still need some more work on it.

Unknown sender text, what about Stagefright?

I use 8sms as my default text app. In the Google Messenger app I see a text of 829 bytes from an unknown sender yesterday which I have not downloaded. This text is not seen in my 8sms messaging app, nor is it seen in the mysms app. Is there any way to check this message outside of my phone? I don't want to open it given the circumstances, but I don't want to miss a legit text.

Stagefright Fix

I have pulled the appropriate libs from the OH1 update and put them in a flashable zip for those of you who want a fix for the stagefright Vulnerability, but don't want to update. I am currently on the OC5 build and I flashed the zip and the vulnerability has been fixed.

I am not responsible for anything that may or may not happen to your device, I am just telling you my experience. I recommend having a backup as always.

Stagefright Still An Issue After Patch?

Am I reading this correctly, in that we could still be vulnerable even after the patch?

Stagefright Update On Rooted Nexus 5

Is there anyway to update without losing data and losing root?

Stagefright and the HTC One M8

We all know of the Stagefright exploit (and the patch that SEEMINGLY fixed it even though its still vulnerable). A lot of AOSP based roms have placed a patch inside of their firmware, and some manufacturers have sent software updates to their devices (the M8 and M9 rumored to get the update this month) What I'm trying to ask is, would it possibly be safer to go S-OFF and get an AOSP-based ROM or stay on stock Sense and wait for the August update, of which we do not know that it will solve the problem entirely? I used the Stagefright detector for Stock S-On on my M8 and it was vulnerable to every bug except one.

StageFright Patch

Patch to the famous Stagefright vulnerabilities, this was provided in the newest update OH1 for the L720T. I did not do anything but put the files into a flashable zip. Has only been tested on Touchwiz 5.0 Lollipop.

KitKat and Stagefright... udate to Lollipop?

Just wondering what all you guys/gals running KitKat are going to do. Are you going to upgrade to LP just to install the Stagefright fix?

I'm personally on the border as I don't really like LP's UI. In fact I hate it! Plus, I'm holding out for perm root! (more like praying for it!)

I wonder if there'll be a separate Stagefright fix just for KK. Unlikely, huh?

Upgrade or not???

quick question about stagefright

hi all, i have a quick question about stagefright. i want to switch back to cm11s it is not patched for the stagefright yet. so my question is, if i switch back to 11s, and use a messaging app like textra, i should be fine right? thanks

Convert Canadian 6045i to US 6045i with all updates (performance, stagefright, etc).

Be very careful doing this, you could brick your phone if you aren't - you have been warned.

Okay, so, us Idol 3 users in Canada are stuck waiting for Alcatel to have any updates blessed by our cell carrier (Bell/Virgin, Telus/Koodo) before we're "allowed" to get them. And as we all know, Canadian cell carrier aren't exactly prompt about this sort of thing. So what's an enterprising XDA user to do, then? Why, convert your device to a US model, of course!

Step 1: Install TWRP
That can be done with this thread here, courtesy of @DallasCZ

Step 2: Download the latest US firmware
That can be done by downloading this file here, courtesy of @famewolf

Step 3: Flashing
Okay, so first, BACK UP YOUR EXISTING FIRMWARE. Take a system image, or nandroid, as your choice may be. Then, do the following:
  • Decompress the US firmware

  • Copy the decompressed 1970-01-22--16-43-23_LRX22G_release-keys folder into your TWRP/Backups/XXXXX/ folder on your External SD card or USB-OTG storage, where XXXXX is your device ID assigned by TWRP when you backed up your existing firmware.

  • Wipe everything *but* External SD and USB-OTG in TWRP.

  • DO NOT REBOOT - go back, and select Restore in TWRP. Pick the US firmware backup.

  • Flash *both* the boot and system image.

  • Reboot System. If your phone does the same as mine, it will seem to get stuck on the 'Alcatel/Smart Move' animation. Hold power until the phone turns off, then turn it back on. It should quickly go to 'Upgrading Android'.

  • You're done! Set up your device, and feel free to install SuperSU, remove bloatware (AVG? Ugh), etc.

I didn't even need to add APN info for Virgin Mobile, it already set up the Bell Canada APN - worked right away out of the box.

One comment to note - I do not know that a Canadian device converted to a US one can get OTA updates, as I believe Alcatel uses some sort of IMEI identification to see what OTA ought to be passed to a device, but I'm unable to confirm this. Of course, I'm personally fine with just manually updating when need be, but that's up to you to decide if you are as well.

AS ALWAYS, BE CAREFUL, DO THIS PROCESS AT YOUR OWN RISK
Don't forget to thank @DallasCZ and @famewolf for their posts/uploads making this possible!

Mismatching build numbers when flashing Stagefright update

Hey guys,

I have an unlocked & rooted Nexus 6 (T-Mo, I believe) that I'm using for Google Fi. I'm currently on the 5.1.1 update that I got pre-root, when Project Fi pushed it to me. My build number (in About phone) is LYZ28E .

Today I was attempting to flash the official Stagefright update via TWRP, however it keeps failing with the following message:

Code:

Package expects build fingerprint of google/shamu/shamu:5.1.1/LYZ28E/1914015 : user/release-keys;
This device has Android/aosp_shamu/shamu: 5.0/LRX21M/dees_troy11191312 : userdebug/test-keys

Again, my ROM is the stock OTA that Google pushed me. I'm not running anything custom aside from TWRP. Any clue why the installer is showing my device as 5.0/LRX21M, when it's actually 5.1.1/LYZ28E?

Thanks in advance!

Root with Stagefright

Hi folks,

Since we have Stagefright and other new security leaks now I was wondering: has anyone stumbled upon a generic root method based on these yet ?

Or is anyone working on one?
