Installing ROMS & Kernels

Dear Android users,

I am new to the whole rooting procedure and have a few questions regarding installing new roms and kernels.

1. Is it harmful to install new roms one after the other? For example, I just installed a new rom and after one hour of experimenting with it I wanted to try out a different rom so I just re-flashed my device. How often can you flash your device without the risk of bricking it or something else going wrong during the process? I know that in order to find the perfect rom for yourself one must flash their devices a several times until they have found what they want but suppose if i were to install 10 different roms in an entire day, would that be harmful to the device or is it fine as long as you know what you are doing and you are installing it properly and carefully ?

2. Suppose if a certain rom was installed with a preferred kernel of your choice and during the rom installation you did not know exactly what features to install or remove e.g. with Aroma installer or any other kind and then once the installation was complete and you were using the new rom you felt that you wanted to go back and install a few more things which you didn't earlier. Will you then have to Install the rom all over again or do you have the option to modify the rom while its installed?

Sorry if any of the questions sound stupid or irrelevant but these are some things which are important to know

Will The New Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Have Custom Roms & Kernels ?

That will further enhance its desirability (especially for those who may not like MIUI). Does having the new MTK Helio X10 processor inhibit the creation of such by potential devs ?

[CAF][BT][BUG] Bluetooth Wakelocks of caf kernels

Hi all. I decided to open this thread because I reported this issue in the past but didn't got attenction.

THE PROBLEM
CAF kernels (OFFICIAL CM NIGHTLY 12.1 TOO!!!) have serious bluetooth wakelocks when a paired device goes out of range

HOW TO REPRODUCE
1) install cpuspy from play store
2) enable bluetooth on your phone
3) pair a Bluetooth device (like the xiaomi mi band)
4) with the Bluetooth still on, move the BT device out of the phone range
5) wait a couple of minutes with the phone in standby (screen off)
6) open cpuspy and check that the phone didn't went in deep sleep
--------------------
a) if you turn off and then turn on the Bluetooth, the phone starts to deep sleep again, also if Bluetooth is on
b) place the phone near the BT device, wait for it to re-pair and then move it out of range, the phone doesn't deep sleep anymore

SCREENSHOOTS

CONCLUSIONS
I found some commits that claim to fix the bluetooth wakelocks issues...but i can't find a single caf kernel that doesn't have this problem.
With this bug my battery goes down REALLY quick (no problem with bluetooth off), I can't believe that after months of caf based roms very few people reported the problem :)

PLEASE REPORT IF YOU CAN CONFIRM THIS BUG...THANKS!

I know posting to other sites isn't generally accepted, however, I would really like to have a custom kernel for lollipop. Anyone know of any that exist?

Thanks

[Q] [URGENT] Please help my Sprint HTC One wont flash kernels!!!

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a sprint htc one on ebay and I'm having trouble with it. I s-off'd the phone and unlocked it so I could install twrp and insertcoin. I did all of that but when I went to flash a kernel my phone began rebooting every 5 minutes and it lost the baseband, imei, service, etc. when in the os. Now its problem has stemmed and gotten worse, the phone now wont even flash other kernels. It says successfully flashed and then if I reboot to the os and check either it flashed and says unkown kernel, baseband, imei, prl, etc. or it didn't change anything. I'm at a loss. I believe it may have been a faulty ruu upgrade that messed up/partially corrupted the boot, data, cache, and radio partitions.

Are there kernels for N7 Grouper with Tap2Wake and 5.1.x support?

Hello all,...
I am running an unlocked N7 2012 Grouper with TWRP2.8.7.0, Lollipop 5.1.1 Rom from Chroma and right now the M-Kernel 5.1.
I really would like to have the Tap to Wake or Double Tap to Wake feature but can't find a Kernel which supports that.
Earlier versions of the M-Kernel should, but the actual version isn't, so I am wondering if there are other kernels which support that feature.
I love it on my HTC and also on my Z3 compact, and it would be so great if that feature could also make it to my N7 ;)

Any help or hint is really welcome..

Many thanks in advance...

Thalys
