Are there any phones that will tether on AT&T without the plan

I used to have an older phone (3G and slow as ever) where the tethering used to work with AT&T when enabled. USB tethering and WiFi. Eventually I picked up the Nokia 920 and of course no longer have that ability as trying to enable tethering leads to a nag screen that acknowledges that the feature is being held ransom by AT&T unless I pay them even more money. I already pay way more than I pay for my cable connection...and the cable connection is 20x faster than AT&T crap network. I just need it for simple mail checks while on the road. I am not paying for that. So I was wondering if anyone has had luck with any 4G capable phones? (I am assuming Android would have the best luck).

Sell Bricked phones?

Can I get any money for this brick? Powers one but reboots.. No imei though. Seems like I remember a place that buys them.

Are new phones updated?

Hi!
I'd like to purchase an xt907, and join your bandwagon. However, I'd like, of course, to be able to unlock the bootloader.
I noticed that many of the phones sold on ebay are already 182/183.46.15 or other updated firmwares.
What about "brand new" phones? Do they ever come updated, or is the phone out of the box generally 182/183.46.10?

thanks!

[Tutorial] copy files to android from windows and the other way for locked phones

hi.
so we now have android in windows phone.there's a tutorial on how to copy files from that android and to that android os but i think you're phone needs to be unlocked (interop).and if you're phone is locked you can do it (i've been away from these kind of things for a long time.correct me if i'm wrong)
i used adb before and knew there was some kind of command to check the folders and files in the phone.so i took my chances and i tried them.
here is the code:
1-

Code:

adb shell

2-result will be something like

Code:

/system/bin/sh: No controlling tty: open /dev/tty: No such file or directory
/system/bin/sh: warning: won't have full job control
shell@ArcadiaArm:/ $

3-type this

Code:

ls

it will gives you a list of all folders in the phone (in android os in windows phone in this case)
4-the main folder is "mnt" so type this code

Code:

cd mnt

5- you can still type

Code:

ls

but it'll take a lot of times to find folders so i'll just give it to you guys.these are the command you need to enter and press enter.(each line must be typed separately)

Code:

cd shell

Code:

cd emulated

Code:

cd 0

6-in here is you type

Code:

ls

you can see that you have Pictured,Music and things like this.so if you want to create a folder in your android just type

Code:

mkdir YourFolder

7-after you created your folder enter

Code:

exit

to exit the shell and now you can "push" and "pull" commands.here's how push command work

Code:

adb push Path\To\Your\File.txt mnt\shell\emulated\YourFolder

i like to put my files that i want to push in the same folder that i have adb.exe so i just need to type the file name and extension.
8-after that you can install an android file manager to manage your files.

i haven't tested "pull" command but it'll work.i just need to test it.

so sorry if you guys knew this method , i just wanted to share it with you.
this method is really good for phone like 920 and for apps and games that has .obb data files (like Fallout Shelter :D )

2 phones

Can I connect 2 phones without having to reset the watch??

Is there a way to change phone's modem?

Hi guys,
I'm having a problem with my phone for a while already.
I have HTC One M8 of T-Mobile.
I'm currently living in Israel, and I bought it here locally from some private mobile store, back then I didn't really realized the difference
between International to all other like T-Mobile, AT&T and such.
After I moved to my current ISP, I'm having trouble with low reception in some places while other phones with my SIM card are working fine and getting good reception.
I understood it's happening because of the modem the T-Mobile are using, it's using other frequencies that aren't available here, only in US and such.

So, is there a way to flash or something a new modem? Or is it something that is hardware based?

Thanks in advance! :good:

What files are needed when phones are on qdload 9008

Hello, I made 2 posts before, on wrong place...

I will give links, just in case...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/gene...droid-t3161850

http://forum.xda-developers.com/gene...-9008-t3163732

and ask again here

"Hello, what is the right way to solve hardbricked phones on motorola android?

I dont know if every model has a different way...

I will ask about motorola xt626, iron rock...

I'll tell what I did to get

"Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008"

I was playing with this model, and then, tried to erase one file and phone never turned on again....

when phone is connected, "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" appears....

I remember I deleted one of these: svn.bin, dbl.mbn or osbl.mbn.

then phone never turned on again

I had no way to write that file again...

what steps should I follow when a phone is on this state?

I attach 2 files, you can see the files I have, and maybe tell me which one should I use to get that phone alive again....

I was able to get phone to "fasbtoot" again using "qflash -ramload MPRG7x30.hex -v", but, phone does not let me write... it always says remote failed

and when you reboot phone using fastboot reboot-bootloader, phone is stuck on "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" again....

could you please, point me, how to fix this phone?

I have working phones if needed to copy something

also, what is the difference between qdload 9008 and qdload 9006?"

thanks

Which of the latest Verizon flagship phones makes the best ROOTED phone?

Hoping I've found the right forum for this question, feel free to move if I have it wrong.

So after two years with the Galaxy S4 I'm back on the market for a new phone. Of course shortly after I get any new device I find myself making the trip to xda to see how to hack my new toy.

I can search all the reviews until my fingers are sore from typing, but what they don't really tell me is which of these phones really shine after they are rooted. I'm hoping the community here has an opinion on that. What say you?

Verizon Compatible Straight Talk Phones Are Unlocked.

At work today, in a Walmart Connection Center, I tried out an AT&T sim and a Verizon branded sim in one of the LTE compatible Straight Talk devices (Galaxy Core Prime) that uses Verizon's towers. I thought it was interesting to know that the requirement for Verizon LTE phones to be carrier unlocked also applies to MVNOs. I have yet to try and activation of such devices with another carrier, but the cards worked just fine. I suspect that Verizon will have the IMEIs blacklisted, but that's just speculation. If anyone has tried this, I am curious now if they would activate them.

Bricked Huawei HiSilicon phones - Honor P6, Mate, 4C etc... way to unbrick???

Hi people.
I have new bricked Huawei Honor 4c with HiSilicon Kirin 620 octacore (Hi6620) Hardly bricked.
I`ve unlocked bootloader and custom recovery used to flash it with my own update.zip from other phone (with LTE support). At the end of flashing - it turned off and bricked.
BUT! After connecting to PC via USB it flashes GREEN and RED leds a few times and after windows determines it as a device with USB\VID_12D1&PID_3609&REV_0000 and named as 䕇䕎䥎 ㄰㌲㔴㜶㤸 .
It is Huawei`s VID. And after a lot of search I found a driver for it - and device became HUAWEI USB-COM 1.0. But nothing else.
No flash utility, nothing. HiSilicon-IDT for K3 processor doesn`t work.

After another searches I found very similar device - it`s named HiKey board. Based on Hisilicon Kirin processor too https://www.96boards.org/.

Quote:

This board is base around the HiSilicon Kirin 6220 eight-core ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit SoC running at 1.2GHz and delivering over 10,000 Dhrystone VAX MIPS total performance. The SoC also delivers high performance 3D graphics support with its ARM Mali 450-MP4 GPU.

1GB 800MHz LPDDR3 DRAM, 4GB eMMC Flash Storage and the standard 96Boards microSD v3.0 socket provide high performance. Flexible storage options and connectivity are available through 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, three high speed USB 2.0 ports (1 OTG), an HDMI 1.3 1080p video output with audio, and Maker, DSI display and CSI camera interfaces. The board is the standard 96Boards credit-card form factor powered by an 8-18V DC 2A power supply.

As we can see - it is very close to ours phone.
It is fully documented and has a lot of spec about proc and other.
And in it`s manual written about recovery procedure after damage of ROM - when device is powered on - it is in "download mode" for 90 seconds - abslolutly like mine phone - after 90 second it turns off from windows.
In short - it is ability to write 2 fastboot images (fastboot1.img and fastboot2.img) in RAM, launch them and using fastboot command flash images to eMMC. They use SERIAL COM PORT to manipulate with device.
It uses utility called "hisi-idt.py" - it is a python script for Linux based machines.
I`ve Installed Linux Mint and try it.
And I`ve some result - first image is going fine and I receive "Done"
But second image is always "Failed". And fastboot command "fastboot devices" do not list any devices.
Viewing binaries from my ROM (Fastboot.img and Fastboot1.img) in HEX - I can see load addresses to ROM are the same as in python script. It is 0xf9800800 and 0x0700000 for both images.
But.... have no success. It looks like I`m close to the goal.
Any ideas?

Wifi-Direct with another phones

Hello. Recently I was trying to use Wi-Fi direct to transmit data to my Lg g2. I manually paired the devices from Settings menu then I selected a file-share-wifidirect and.... nothing! It showed me an empty screen with a Search For Devices button and in a few seconds responded with a message popup "Data transmission via Wi-Direct must be performed with another huawei device at the moment". WTF? Why? Is Wi-fi direct something huawei specific? I do not think so. The odd thing is that LG also allows to pair devices but does not give you a possibility to send data via Wi-Fi Direct forcing you to use SmartShare Beam which is LG-only technology. Why manufacturers are so stupid, they state their product has some technolohy but it's actually unusable! I do not wan't 2 huawei devices and I do not want 2 LG devices! On the other hand my old samsung s3 hanles it in a proper way, I was able to send files from it to both aforementioned devices using Wi-Fi Direct.
I know I can install SuperBeam to deal with my problem but it's inconvenient to install it on every device you want to transmit data to. So I just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem. Also my ROM is a bit old, something like b121(I have MT7-L10 version) so I wonder maybe they have already fixed it in some newer ROM especially the lates ones with Lolipop. If so I will try to install that rom. Thank you.

When it comes to cell phones, what is a modem?

Googling only lead me to people tethering and using their phone as a modem... but does the phone have an actual modem??

im just wondering if thats what could have been messing up my phone, maybe the modem was messed up somehow? Software speaking?

Just curious
