question about running samsung security updates

My phone is only rooted, I have ignored the security updates since I got it thinking I might loose my root. Is this the case or will it still be rooted and do I need these updates anyway? Also, anyone know of a good rom for the att version that wont kill the battery and has a better camera than the stock one. I sure miss my s3 camera app that was in one of the carbon roms I had on it it was awesome. btw the phone was towel rooted.

Keep app running

Been trying out Endomondo on my LG G Watch R. The app starts fine and I've set it to monitor my heart rate when exercising. Work fine for a few minutes, then the watch is back at the watch face and Endomonto stops tracking heart rate. I can click the notification bar and re-open Endomondo on the watch and it starts for a few minutes again, before reverting to the watch face.

The result is that my heart rate is only logged at the start of the workout since I can't be bothered to stop and restart endomondo all the time.

How can I make an app stay open on the watch? I remember something about holding my hand palm over the watch, but that does not seem to work. It places Endomondo in ambient mode which displays some nice stats, but still it quits and ends up a the watch face after a few minutes.

Any ideas?

best way to decrypt a tmobile phone running pure rom

so, just got my nexus a couple of days ago, and loving it!
would like to decrypt, but not 100% sure on the best/safest way to do it at this point..
running pure rom, with lots of tweaks, and I originally unlocked and rooted with Wugs great toolkit.

I know if I decrypt at this point I will lose all my data and stuff, but of course its already backed up in a couple of places, and I have the "fixes" to flash after I decrypt to keep me that way, if I flash a "encrypted" rom by mistake.

Just wondering if someone could make a straightforward post, telling me the 3 or 4 things I need to do/flash to get to that point.

Thanks so much!:good:

I turn screen on, the running apps menu displays instead of home screen?

Okay, this is a little thing that for whatever reason is driving me bonkers. Bonkers I tell ya!

I recently updated to 5.1.1. Stock, but rooted and unlocked. I then installed xposed and some modules. I changed a lot, so it's hard to narrow down what is causing this.

When I turn my screen on, my main home screen should show up. You know the button on the bottom right that brings up a list of running apps? That's what shows up instead. So every time I turn on my screen, I need to hit the home button first. Bonkers I tell ya!

Thanks in advance!

Flashing and repartitioning Xiaomi MI2S running MIUI6

I can boot in to bootloader with miui v6.
Then I can do

Code:

fastboot oem unlock

And now I can flash custom recoveries with fastboot command

Code:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Now you have a working custom recovery. Miui v6 will replace it if you update the ROM, so no problem. Now you can flash some rom (for example CM12.1 by M1cha)

For repartition my Mi2S I used this guide by M1cha and it works fine.

Multitasking/memory problems with running apps

Hello all! I have searched XDA for a similar issue but can't seem to find anything. I find it hard to believe this hasn't been asked before, so I must be using the wrong verbiage.

For some reason, certain apps are getting killed off when they aren't the foreground app. I could be playing a game, hit the recents button and switch to hangouts to type out a text, switch back to the game, and the phone reloads the entire game. This is extremely frustrating as you can imagine, but games aren't the only apps this happens to as pretty much any app does this, with the exception of Hangouts and a few others. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it either, because it's not limited to only apps that take up a small amount of ram. I've checked my free ram available while running Hearthstone, and it never drops below 500 it seems. I am running SKyDragon's version 9.0, Sense 7, LP 5.02. I know LP had a memory hole issue when it first came out, but I thought the version of SkyDragon I have fixed it long ago. Thanks for any help!

Flashing and Partitioning Xiaomi MI2S running MIUI6

After upgrading from MIUIv4 to v6, I've discovered that the new version comes with a bootloader that
  • reflashes the recovery partition each time it's run with the stock recovery, which makes it impossible to use a custom recovery in order to install unsigned .zip patches,

  • doesn't support download mode, which makes it impossible to connect the phone to a computer as a block device and repartition it.

Since resolving this wasn't completely trivial (to me) and required a bit of research, I took some notes for future reference. I decided to compile these notes into a guide in hope that someone will find it useful. Keep in mind that while I do have technical background, I'm not intimately acquainted with the inner workings of Android and there was some trial and error involved. As a result, some steps may be too heavy-handed or even unnecessary and I therefore encourage comments.

Prerequisites
The guide presumes one has the adb, fastboot and parted binaries installed on a (presumably un*x) box, which enables access to block devices via the filesystem. For most users, that means a linux box.

List of files
  • xiaomi.eu_multi_aries_5.8.6_v6-5.0.zip – The MIUI6 v5.8.6 Czech ROM. Downloaded from [5].

  • emms_appsboot.mbm – A fixed bootloader for MIUI6 v5.8.6, which allows for the installation of recoveries other than the

  • built-in one (see Reinstalling the recovery). Downloaded from [2].

  • recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.0-aries-20140718.img – A recovery image of a custom version of the clockworkmod. Extracted from the archive downloaded from [1].

  • cm-11-20150802-NIGHTLY-aries.zip – An alternative ROM (Cyanogenmod 11). downloaded from [6].

Download mode
Booting into download mode appears to be disabled in MIUI6 v5.8.6. You will therefore need to boot into a custom recovery (see Booting into a custom recovery mode) and flash an alternative ROM (it would likely suffice to flash only certain partitions?):

Code:

$ adb push cm-11-20150802-NIGHTLY-aries.zip /storage/sdcard0

To boot into the download mode with an alternative ROM, consult [3] or run adb reboot dload against the phone in the system or in the recovery mode.

Repartitioning the internal flash memory
In my experience, the default size of the /system partition is insufficient to accommodate all the system applications along with the ever-growing Google Apps. The original inspiration came from [4]. To adjust the partition sizes, I used the parted command-line tool, since it comes with full support for GPT partitions and labels. Gparted used, but (as of v0.19.0-2) appeared to be much slower compared to parted and didn't seem to fully support GPT partition labels. Keep in mind that, unlike gparted, parted applies the changes to the block device immediately. Proceed with caution.

Before starting, it's best to backup the current partition table for a reference:

Code:

# gparted /dev/sdc
GNU Parted 3.2
Using /dev/sdc

27      5312MiB    29820MiB  24509MiB  ext4        storage

Mind that /dev/sdc refers to the block device of my phone and will differ on your system depending on the amount of other block devices connected and the type of your system. It's also best to backup either the entire block device (/dev/sdc) or at last the specific partitions you are going to be messing with (/dev/sdcXY) – this is doubly important for partitions <= 22, the correct content of which may be difficult to retrieve when damaged. Labels (most likely) aren't important, the partition numbers are, so make sure you keep their order when fiddling with them.

After finishing, reconnect the phone to make the kernel recognize the new partition structure and create the filesystem (mkfs.ext4) for any partitions you have created. The following example makes the system and system1 partitions 1GiB each and the userdata partition 4GiB at the expense of the storage partition:

Code:

# parted /dev/sdc
GNU Parted 3.2
Using /dev/sdc
Welcome to GNU Parted! Type 'help' to view a list of commands.
(parted) rm 23
(parted) rm 24

(parted) mkpart physical ext4 1344MiB 2368MiB
(parted) mkpart physical ext4 2368MiB 2752MiB
(parted) mkpart physical ext4 2752MiB 6848MiB
(parted) mkpart physical ext4 6848MiB 29819MiB
(parted) name 23 system
(parted) name 24 system1
(parted) name 25 cache
(parted) name 26 userdata
(parted) name 27 storage
(parted) quit
# sync

And then, after reattaching the phone to the computer:

Code:

# for i in /dev/sdc2[34567]; do mkfs.ext4 $i; done
# sync

Recovery mode
For booting into recovery, consult [3].

Booting into a custom recovery
Use the process described at [2], with steps 7-8 interchanged with 9-10. I used the emms_appsboot.mbm and recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.0-aries-20140718.img files (see List of files) from the fastboot mode as follows:

Code:

$ fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.0-aries-20140718.img
$ fastboot flash aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn
$ fastboot boot  recovery-clockwork-6.0.5.0-aries-20140718.img

If the phone gets stuck at booting during the last step, restart the phone and try again.

You should now be in the custom recovery. For me, this only lasted until a reboot. Then, the recovery was replaced with the stock one and it became impossible to boot into the system, effectively softbricking the phone. To fix this, flash the stock emmc_appsboot.mbm bootloader image extracted from the .zip of the MIUI ROM you are using and flash it from the fastboot mode:

Code:

$ fastboot flash aboot ./the/original/emmc_appsboot.mbn
$ fastboot continue

Booting into fastboot mode
To boot into the fastboot mode, either:
  • Reboot the phone while holding the volume down button.

  • Run adb reboot bootloader against the phone in the system or in the recovery mode.

Need Help to Debrick S3 Running Cyanogenmod 12.1 android version 5.1.1

I installed Cyanogenmod 12.1 on my sprint s3 with CWM about a month ago; everything was working fine until last night when my phone died on me and after leaving it on the charger over night I woke to find my phone Hard Bricked. Now I know it's not the battery since I have two (both of which I've fully charged via battery charger) and I can't get into download mode or recovery mode; plus given the fact that there is no battery charger light on when phone is plugged into charger; except when the battery is not in the phone then it's only lit up for around 30 seconds: I am absolutely sure that my phone is Hard Bricked (Still not sure as to why my phone Hard Bricked in the first place though), and given the fact that I've lost my old img back up I made when I installed a new linux OS on my PC a few days ago foolishly not backing up all my phone files. Given all that I can say without a doubt that my phone is screwed without any help from someone else, but sadly out of everyone I know personally not one of them seams to have a Sph-L710 S3.

Now I've searched all day now to find a dumped sph-l710 5.1.1 cyanogenmod 12.1 image to no avail (not sure if the recovery software is a factory but I use CLOCKWORKMOD). Now I know that a SD card debrick loader has a chance to not work but I really would like to at least find out whether or not it will help me in my situation, or if I should just finally decide to upgrade to a new device (the latter option is not exactly appealing to me; oh how I love my S3 with its perfect size), If there is anyone that could possible help me out I would greatly appreciate it. So, that is my issue; I hope that you can help if not thanks for the effort of reading this post anyways.

How to make apps stay running in background?

Runescape running on Android?

New to xda; WELCOME ME.

For years Runescape has been talked about in terms of being ported onto a mobile platform. It was never really possible as Java cannot be installed on Android or IOS natively. People are currently settling for AlwaysOnPC at around 2fps or using a remote desktop program and running it directly from their PC, as if streaming it with input.

My question is, is it possible to run the new platform that Runescape now runs on, HTML5? If so, I want to start developing an app to do so. Chrome on Android itself supports HTML5 so if you were to download the entire cache (although it would be huge) and load it directly onto an apk, would it work? Obvious UI changed would need to be coded but it seems plauble to me. Any ideas?:good:

RUNNING, BIKING, SWIMMING : MOTO 360 or SONY SMARTWATCH 3 ?

Hi everybody,

I would like to buy a smartwatch to prepare a marathon. First, I looked to sport watches but I found them very expensive. Moreover, I want to use this device as a casual gadget.
I use ENDOMONDO for more than one year on Android and i love this app. Moreover, and it's a good news, ENDOMONDO is available on Android Wear.

I'm looking for a smartwatch that allows me to go running, biking, swimming (not necessary), walking,... without my phone. I will synchronize my data using bluetooth when i will be back at home. Also, I don't want to spend more than 200$ in this smartwatch.

I really like the design of the MOTO 360, its price and its native compatibility to ENDOMONDO. However, MOTO 360 doesn't integrate a GPS chipset. In the other hand, SONY SMARTWATCH 3 has a GPS chipset inside but the design isn't as well as the MOTO 360 for a similar price.

Which one can you advice me ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Note 4 running hot, and high battery drain

Hey everyone,

My note 4 on 5.0.1 running any rom (stock, poprocks, TekHD) runs super hot. The area on the screen that is right below the camera is unpleasant to touch. When running a cpu temperature monitor I seem to identify around 60c and when Web browsing and scrolling though pages it'll go up to 70c. This also seems to be killing my battery life. Over 10 hours I'll be lucky to get 2 hours sot.

I've gotten wld and bbs and don't see any crazy wake locks that aren't supposed to be there. Largest one is my Google play music which I do use. 2nd up is Bluetooth, I'm guessing because of my android wear device. I've also done clean installs where I do a correct wipe then don't install any apps. Still horrible battery life, still lots of heat.

From reading about it sounds like the heat issue could be a bad device and I should get it replaced? Should I try picking up a new battery?

Over the course of writing this post, about 4 minutes I've gone from 17% to 10%. :(

Anyone able to get half life 2 running right

Hey just wondering if anyone is able to get this working right using gltools wants to load but too much black..

Finally got my SM-T217a running 4.4.2 rooted

But because for so long the bootloader seemed unlockable, and because when they finally did get it unlocked, it was with a device that was almost 200$, there was a complete lack of development on this particular device once it was given the 4.4.2 upgrade. Over the course of a year, I have found many things about the tablet that I have been unable to find out on my own to get into.
I found that the tab 3 lte was actually designed as a really big phone, but the dialer, phone and dialer storage were blocked by AT&T, so even with a sim chip, the tablet just will not function as a phone without getting a VOIP app, and I really shouldnt have to considering that I have a perfectly good phablet capable of actual phone calls. I dont know how to use terminal emulator very well, or if the language changes drastically between versions of Android.
I was also wondering if it was actually possible to unlock the bootloader from Terminal emulator now that I have full root.
Is there a way of finding out if my current stock rom is one of those that have the SO- attached to the system folders so that I cant write anything to the system folders without reverting to out of the box system restore. And lastly, I was wondering if there was ever any custom recovery that was made for this device that would be usable now, considering that when the device came out it was on Jellybean, not kitkat. If anyone could help me I would be greatly appreciative. I know it sounds like a lot of work for a tablet , but I am not exactly overflowing with money to go and buy a new one. This was a gift and I just want to try to avoid bricking it when I just now finally got the damned things rooted.
