So I bought my shield tablet back in March, used it until about may I think. Was browsing the internet then it suddenly crashed and got stuck on the Nvidia boot screen. tried to reboot several times. Nothing. So I forgot about it and thought I would just google the reset option later when I had time. Now since June I have tried everything! From factory reset to fast boot and adb my pc won't even recognize my tablet. Also I never turned on usb dbugging cause I didn't even know what that was. I even gave it to the IT guys at work and they couldn't fix it. Now after reading everything there is to read on this problem and trying to fix it myself I'm stuck on the no command screen with the dead android robot. And now I hear there is a recall do to the battery, I can't even check what type I have. So if someone can please help me I would be much appreciative. Also this happened after updating to the latest OS.

What is the best custom ROM for Shield?
Hi Guys,
I know this is a terrible question to ask, but in my experience playing with custom ROMs on a whole range of devices, the answers are usually helpful:
What is the best custom ROM for the nvidia shield tablet at the moment, and why?
I think a lot of people are asking this question at the moment due to the recall and the possibility of keeping their original device working by installing a custom ROM.

Shield Tablet without battery?
Hi there everyone,
So, i seem to be one of the lucky ones who don't need to return the recalled tablet and has it patched against the remote bricking by now...yet, the fear/respect of my battery catching on fire remains...
Now, what if i simply remove the battery from the device (cut the wires, pull it out, throw it away), plug it permanently on the USB charger, connect it to the TV via HDMi and use it as a nvidia shield TV rather than a tablet...
Would the device have any issues not having the battery in?
thx

NVIDIA Shield Unlock Bootloader FAILED
Good afternoon-
I recently picked up a NVIDIA Shield from a friend of mine because it would not turn back on for him. It is currently stuck at the NVIDIA Boot screen. I can access the Bootloader and I can access stock recovery. However, when I attempted to use Fastboot to unlocked the bootloader I receive the below...
(bootloader) Showing Options on Display.
(bootloader) Use device keys for selection.
(bootloader) erasing userdata...
(bootloader) erasing userdata done
(bootloader) erasing cache...
(bootloader) erasing cache done
(bootloader) unlocking...
FAILED (remote: ()
finished. total time: 3.872s
I am using "Fastboot OEM Unlock" and it does prompt me on the Shield to unlock, but once I select unlock it bounces right back to the bootloader and fails. I tried wiping data and factory reset via stock recovery, but when I do I receive an E: Failed to Mount /Cache (Invalid Argument). It will not let me read/write any of my user data files at all. It seems as if they are corrupt, but I am not quite sure.
I am looking for a way to get this thing back up and running. I am perfectly fine with losing all data on it. Is there a stock kernal that I can flash with a locked bootloader? I fear the issue is with the bootloader or corrupted EMMC. I am open to any and all suggestions!

Shield Kill Switch
Hi figured we could use our own separate thread to discuss the killswitch Nvidia supposedly put in place on our old Shield tablets and see what has worked for those who have received their replacement units. If you've gotten a replacement please share if your old unit has been destroyed or not...if not please let others know what the old tablet has on it or what you did to attempt to prevent the brick! Thanks for helping us all out here!

Has anyone else noticed something odd about the Shield Tablet's description?
On the xda Shield Tablet "main page", I noticed something a little odd
I'm pretty sure the dual core variant (Project Denver) was released after the Shield Tablet, especially considering that the first device to feature a Project Denver K1 was the Google Nexus 9, announced Oct 15, 2014, nearly 2 months after the release of the Wi-Fi only Shield Tablet
I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this. I'm not sure where else to put it
Quote:
It features an 8" 1200p IPS LCD display, Nvidia Tegra K1 dual-core 2.2Ghz processor, 192-core Kepler GPU and 2GB of RAM. |

Nvidia Shield Tablet downgrade and back up help
Hey,
I am an android n00b and I am new to these forums, so let me know if I did something wrong.
I just had a little chat with Nvidia and they told me the replacement device will come with lolipop :(.
My current Shield has Kit Kat and I would never even think about using lolipop (I hate it). It is possible to back up the whole image of my current shield with kit kat ( All apps all data all settings etc) then downgrade the replacement shield with this image ? How are you guys backing up your shields? Will you be downgrading your replacement shields?
Thanks in advance :)

Nvidia Shield Portable Lollipop (Update 103) Root - Which CWM Version?
Hey Guys -
Today, I upgraded my Shield Portable to 103 / Lollipop from the last public update. As I have all my Android devices rooted, I am needing to do so, but have a question. I much prefer manual rooting over apps (like Kings) where i don't know what's going on behind the scenes.
After reading through posts, I read that TWRP (which I usually use) wasn't installing SuperSU, but that CWM was working properly. I went to CWM's site, but they didn't have a download specifically for the Shield so I searched everywhere for whatever the latest working version would be. I ended up downloading and flashing two separate recovery images, but they didn't work. For both, when attempting to enter recovery from the Bootloader menu it just quickly reloaded the Bootloader menu and when fully booted into OS and running "adb reboot recovery", it would boot to an error screen.
Which version of CWM should I be using with Update 103 / Lollipop for the Shield portable? If you have a link or if steps beyond flashing it using above methods are needed, what are they? Finally, I read in one post what seemed to say that SuperSU was integrated in CWM therefore there wasn't need to download a separate zip for it. If that's the case, great. If not, which version should i use - the latest Beta 2.49?
Thanks Guys!
